Please ensure that you are signed into Class Dojo and refer to this for regular news and updates regarding Year 2.
Hedgehogs Class has two weekly sessions of PE taught: on a Monday and Wednesday.
English
During our English lessons in year 2 we learn about a variety of different text types. Including narrative, non-chronological reports, instructions, letters and diary entries. We develop our independence to write at length and explore our imagination to make up our own versions of well-known stories.
Mathematics
In mathematics lessons we build on our prior knowledge and reinforce our knowledge of key concepts. We become fluent mathematicians able to work out addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. We enjoy lots of practical lessons where we use manipulatives to support our learning.
Reading
We encourage you to read your child’s reading books multiple times and read to your child daily. Please record everything your child reads in their reading log; we love to hear about all the different texts you read at home. These could include magazines, comic books, recipes and many more. Reading books will be changed once a week. Please ensure children keep their books and reading logs in their bags, so we can read these books with them at school as well.
Curriculum
In year 2, we learn about a range of different topics including: animals and their habitats, plants and humans in science lessons. Continents and hot and cold places in geography. How to keep fit and healthy during PE lessons.
Homework
Homework is sent out every Friday. This usually includes a mathematics sheet and writing task that can be completed in the book. Sometimes we link homework to a foundation subject such as art or geography. Homework should be handed in by Wednesday the following week.
