Ladybirds Class has two weekly sessions of PE taught: on a Monday and Wednesday.
Phonics and Reading
We follow the Little Wandle Scheme, providing daily phonics lessons and small group reading sessions facilitated by a highly trained adult.
Writing
At the start the year, students will focus on applying phonics in their writing while engaging in oral rehearsals of sentences. As the year progresses, we will concentrate on constructing sentences with consistent use of capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces. Students will progress to write postcards and short setting descriptions, before advancing to crafting narrative beginnings and conclusions, ultimately working towards writing a story. Additionally, we will explore non-fiction writing, including diary entries, recounts our beach trip, and instructional texts on preparing a fruit salad.
Mathematics
Learners will explore place value within 10, 20, and 100, alongside addition and subtraction within 100. Geometry will be engaged through shape recognition and understanding position and direction. The children will develop skills in measurement, covering length, height, mass, volume, money, and time. Multiplication, division, and fractions will also be introduced, ensuring a comprehensive foundation in mathematics.
Science
Students will learn a range of topic such as animals including humans, seasonal changes and everyday materials. We will conduct a range of experiments such as making a stable house for the three little pigs.
Foundation Subjects
We will engage in a range of foundation subjects such as art, music, religious education (RE), history, geography, computing, design and technology (DT), physical education (PE) and personal social health and education (PSHE).
