Welcome to Year 3 - Also known as Squirrels Class

Thank you for visiting our class page. On this page you will find key information about our curriculum and our classroom. We will also be sharing some of our learning with you, so please come back to visit to see what is new.

Teachers: Mrs Zárate (Monday and Tuesday) and Miss Flight (Wednesday – Friday)

Teaching Assistant: Ms Campbell

Curriculum

In the Autumn term, we learn about a range of topics. In geography in the first half term, we will learn about rivers. Then for history in the second half term we compare the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. In science we are studying rocks and then we will learn about animals (including humans). In RE, we are considering the concept of ‘reconciliation’ and what this means to Christians and in PSHE we are talking about relationships with others and belonging.

PE and well being

We have two sessions of PE per week. One is on Tuesday with a professional gymnastics coach and Mrs Zárate, and the other is on Friday with Miss Flight. Please ensure full PE kits are brought into school on these days. These sessions are essential in supporting our physical and mental health. This term, in our second lesson, we are focusing on yoga which links to our school value of ‘resilience’.

During the day, we take regular movement breaks either using a short exercise video or going outside for five minutes. We follow these breaks with a few minutes of calm time, using guided meditation for children which encourages us to focus on our surroundings and how our bodies are feelings. This helps us feel ready to learn.

Homework

Homework is sent home every Friday and is to be handed in by Wednesday and includes tasks relating to English and Maths. We also often send home some additional maths practise using Number Sense so children can develop their understanding of number.

We have included the list of Year 3 and 4 common exception words on this page to support spelling practise at home. As always, we encourage children to read for pleasure at home and read to an adult at least four times per week, so please continue to support your children to read wherever, whatever and whenever they can!

Remember: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go” – Dr. Seuss.
